Stainless Steel Appliances

Save money and make your own to clean stainless steel appliances. To clean streaky stains from appliances, simply put some olive oil and wipe it with a soft cloth. Olive oil also works on sink stains too.

Dishwasher Powder

Make a solution of 1 cup washing soda, 1/4 cup citric acid, 1/4 cup salt and 10 drops of essential oil of your choice.  Add distilled white vinegar to the rinse compartment. Mix together in a large jar and scoop out as needed. Use less than a tablespoon of this per load. More is not better.

Liquid Dish Soap

Mix 40 drops of your preferred essential oil (lemon, orange or lavender oil) and 32 ounces of liquid castile soap. Add the citrus oil to the lavender castile soap for a grease-cutting solution. Keep in mind that the solution is very concentrated and works best when used with hot water. Put a couple drops on your scrubbing brush and rinse with hot water before scrubbing. You can use this solution when there are pots and pans that need a quick scrubbing.

All Purpose Spray

Make a solution of 1/2 cup of distilled white vinegar, 20 drops essential oils and 1 cup of distilled water. The essential oils for the spray can be tea tree, lavender, thieves, purification, lemon, citrus fresh, grapefruit, clove and orange, rosemary, peppermint, and bergamot. Combine any of these essential oils to make your own scent depending on your mood. Combine and store in a glass amber spray bottle. Shake well before use.

Wood Floor Cleaner

  • To clean a wooded floor when using a rope mop, fill your bucket with the mixture of 1 teaspoon Castile soap, 10 drops anti-bacterial essential oil and 1-gallon warm water.
  • For a steam mop, put five drops of anti bacterial essential oil on the pad of the mop, fill the tank with water and mop away.
  • For a microfiber mop, fill your spray bottle with 2-3 drops Castile soap, 5 drops of anti-bacterial essential oil and 2 cups of warm water.

Wooden Furniture Conditioner

Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil, 1 cup of distilled water, 10 drops of pine essential oil and 10 drops of lemon essential oil. Combine the solution and store in a glass amber spray bottle. Spray this on the wooden furniture and rub off with a dry cloth which nourishes and restores the wood.

Glass Spray

Take 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol, 2/3 drops castile soap, 1/4 cup of distilled white vinegar, 10 drops of a citrus oil and 2 cups of distilled water. Combine and store in a glass amber spray bottle. Use microfiber cloth or newspaper to dry your windows.

Tub Scrub

Make a solution of 1/4 cup liquid castile soap, 10 drops of thieves or tea tree oil and 1 cup of baking soda. Store the solution in a mason jar and scrub the tub when needed.

Toilet Bowl Cleaner

Add 1/2 cup of baking soda, 1/4 cup of distilled white vinegar, 10 drops of tea tree oil to the toilet bowl. Let it sit for a few minutes and scrub it.

Fresh Linen Spray

Add 20 drops of essential oil, 1/8 teaspoon of salt and 2 ounces of distilled water. Store the solution in a glass amber spray bottle.  Spray the solution on the furniture when cleaning and shake well before using.

Clean Brass naturally

Make a solution of 1/4 cup of vinegar and 1/2 cup of baking soda. Stir the solution and apply it into the brass. Clean it with a dry towel or shine the brass with olive oil.

Marble Stains

Add baking soda and alcohol and spread it on the marble stain. Cover it with plastic and let it sit overnight.  Then wipe down the marble, rinse and dry it.

Clothing Freshener

Combine 2 tablespoons of white vinegar, 2 tablespoon of natural fabric softener, 6-10 drops of your favorite essential oil, 16-ounce fine mist sprayer and fill the remainder with distilled water. This can help reduce your dry cleaning bills, eliminate over washing of clothes and neutralise pet odors.

Natural Fabric Softeners

Add 1/2 cup of baking soda, 1/2 cup of vinegar and 1/2 the amount of your regular detergent. This combination apparently not only cleans well but softens and cuts down on static.

Clean Burnt Pans

Fill the bottom of the pan with water and add 1 cup of vinegar. Heat the pan and add 2 tablespoons of baking soda. Empty the pan and clean it. If the pan still has any stubborn, make a paste or solution of baking soda and 2/3 drops of water. Leave the paste on the marks for a while and clean it as normal.
